A plot of land was allocated in the city of Grodno in 2008 by decree of the President of Belarus. It is situated in the very centre of the city, Vasilka Street in the Old Town of Grodno. A new consulate building will be constructed on this site. The building which will accommodate the Consulate General in Grodno was designed by the Lithuanian-based design company Unitectus, whereas local designers took care of the adaptation of the Lithuanian project which is mandatory in Belarus.
The response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included the following description: “A new two-storey consulate building with an attic and a total area of 1288.32 sq. metres. The building will accommodate 22 workstations, spaces for representative and cultural events and a large reception hall.”
The BAUT fixing system was used for installing a façade of cladding tiles. The construction work is executed by Imstata. The major part of the project has already been completed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects to finish the project in 2021 depending on the financing situation.
A modern building of the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Grodno in the historic centre of the city is more than just a building or improvement of working or customer service conditions. It represents Lithuania’s strong and long-term vision for the Lithuanian identity in the district of Grodno and our promise for the future: stronger presence of Lithuania in the district of Grodno and Belarus in general.
